About Me

Norma Orozco is a passionate and committed leader. She is a rank and file member of CWA Local 9415 and serves on the Board where she organizes and supports non-profit workers. She works full time as the Communications Manager at the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights. The daughter of Mexican Immigrants, Norma started her journey advocating for migrant rights at a very young age. She has over a decade of experience working with people who are most marginalized including migrants, BIPOC, incarcerated and formerly incarcerated community members, students, and working class families. She has extensive experience in legislative advocacy having worked in the Judiciary Committee under Senator Feinstein and pushing forward statewide bills on sentencing, re-entry, restorative justice, and public safety,

Experience

I have 20 years of experience with legislative and electoral work. I currently serve as the Contractual Vice President for Communication Workers of America, Local 9415. I know that true power lies with the people, and true change comes when we invest in the working class.

I have worked in the halls of the Capitol in Washington DC under Senator Feinstein, I have also worked with and supported people who are currently behind bars in CA State Prison and Jails. I know that real solutions come when we put aside greed and start working together to build a future that takes us all into account.

Why I’m Running

As an American with migrant roots, I have never taken my right to vote, or run, for granted. I have over a decade of working with elections and policy, from being a grassroot organizer, to pushing forward legislation that supports bringing true safety to all of our communities. Our Democratic System is in crisis, which is why I have decided to run; to speak up and stand up to corporate interests who have manipulated our electoral process for too long

I am tired of the same failures. Tired of them saying that there is no space for something new, something different. 2025 literally started in flames, it is time we stop thinking of profits, and start focusing on people. The working class, our children, our elders. For centuries Native Americans stewarded this earth, and all of our ancestors and children have lessons to teach us. If we can learn to lead from the bottom, we may be open to seeing things in a new way and to bring solutions that are by the people, and for the people. I not only have the experience necessary to represent you in the Democratic party, I also have a vision and an open mind that is willing to listen, learn, and grow.

More About Me

I am the daughter of Mexican migrants and the seed of the rural Northern California Coast. I have a deep love for the ocean and mother nature. I believe that when we are able to love and care for the earth, we learn to also love and take care of each other. I received my Bachelor of Arts from the University of California Santa Barbara in 2014. After college I briefly worked as a legislative intern in the United States Senate before making the move to the non-profit world, where policies are being implemented and grass-roots organizing is creating the change our communities need. I have vast experience working in social justice spaces specifically in higher education access and equity, immigration rights, civil rights, and decarceration. My eclectic background and knowledge of policy and Government work, partnered with my experience as an organizer and digital strategist, gives me a keen insight into how to tailor the digital world to best reach your target audience.

Reviews

It was a pleasure working with Norma. She has great attention to detail, is clear in her messaging about how things will go and what she needs and is very affordable. We received great feedback on our event and part of that success was Norma’s ability to manage everything behind the scenes and make it appear smooth and effortless. Thank you!

Like many other organizations, we too were challenged with social distancing orders. Thanks to Norma and her creative ideas, we were able to host our annual alumni fundraiser, engage our alumni, and raise more dollars than in previous years. All the tips that Norma offered helped us coordinate our event and future events.
